Religion

Prayers
Goal Grades
By the end of the year can recite these prayers: Sign of the Cross, Guardian Angel, Hail Mary, Our Father, Glory Be, and Food Blessing (test only for prayers learned so far in the classroom)
  • E - Can recite without any help
  • S - Can recite with little help (possibly a little slurred)
  • N - Can't recite at all or very little
Concepts
Goal Grades
Can recall concepts taught during the quarter.
  • E - Can recall all concepts or almost all
  • S - Demonstrates understanding but was not able to answer all the questions

Reading

Left/Right
Goal Grades
By the end of first quarter, can name both the left and right hands and both the left and right feet.
  • E - Can do it consistently
  • S - Can do it, but not consistent or needs a little help
  • N - Cannot label right or left correctly
Names Letters
Goal Grades
Knows the names (capital and small) of the letters of the alphabet by the end of the first quarter.
  • E - Knows all letters
  • S - Knows most of the letters but misses a few of the more confusing ones
  • N - Does not know easily recognizable letters
Given a Letter, Names Sound
Goal Grades
Can say the correct sound when given a letter for the whole alphabet by the end of the first quarter
  • E - Can say all the sounds correctly and clearly for the whole alphabet
  • S - Can say most of the sounds but misses a few of the more confusing ones (including the vowels)
  • N - Does not know easily recognizable sounds
Given a Sound, Names the Letter
Goal Grades

Blending Sounds

Rhyming Words
Goal Grades
Able to rhyme a simple one syllable word by the end of the year (short and long vowels)
  • E - Can think of many words that rhyme with the given word
  • S - Can think of one word that rhymes with the given word
  • N - Cannot rhyme at all
Recognizes Words
Goal Grades
Able to rhyme a simple one syllable word by the end of the year (short and long vowels)
  • E - Can read all (or almost all) the words on sight
  • S - Can read most of the words on sight
  • N - Cannot decode the words without help
Reads with Understanding
Goal Grades
Able to comprehend the phonics reader stories read by the students in class and can answer questions regarding content.
  • E - Able to answer all questions including higher level thinking
  • S - Able to answer all (or almost all) content questions

Able to remember the main ideas of the different themes covered during the quarter.

  • N - Not able to express an understanding of the content covered and is not showing effort in participating in discussions

Writing

Applies Handwriting
Goal Grades
Is able to correctly form all the capital and lower case letters by the end of the first quarter and continues to perfect throughout the year.
  • E - Able to correctly form all the capital and lower case letters during handwriting and during other writing opportunities
  • S - Able to correctly form all (or most) of the capital and lower case letters letters during handwriting time (and end of the 4th quarter also during other writing times)
  • N - Not able to correctly form letters
Uses Correct Grammar/Punctuation
Goal Grades
Able to write sentences using a noun and a verb with capital letters at beginning and correct ending punctuation by the end of the year
  • E - Able to write sentences using a noun and a verb with correct beginning and ending punctuation before the fourth quarter
  • S - Able to demonstrate the skills as they are taught
  • N - Does not show growth in this area
Composes and Writes Stories
Goal Grades
Able to write a simple three-sentence story by the end of the year
  • E - Able to put 5-6 sentences together to make a simple story without help
  • S - Able to put sentences together to make a story with a little assistance
  • N - Not able to express a story
Writes Letters and Numbers
Goal Grades
Writes all letters uppercase and lowercase and numbers 1-120 (1-50 first quarter, 1-75 second quarter, 1-100 third quarter, 1-120 fourth quarter)

Counting Objects

Is able to do one-to-one correspondence up to 100 objects by the end of the year
  • E - Demonstrates consistant one-to-one correspondence and is able to achieve all forms of counting taught so far (such as by 1s, 2s, 5s, 10s, 100s, 1000s)
  • S - Demonstrates one-to-one correspondence and is learning the different forms of counting
  • N - Does not have one-to-one correspondence
Numbers in Order
Goal Grades
Can put numbers 1-100 in order without copying by the end of the year (test for numbers 1-50 consecutively first quarter, 1-50 randomly second quarter, 1-75 randomly third quarter, 1-100 randomly fourth quarter)
